A strong effort from Beaulieu, the 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve boasts a dense ruby/purple color in addition to a beautifully sweet nose of spicy oak intermixed with black cherries and currants. Full-bodied, rich, pure, and concentrated, it combines restraint and elegance with power and muscle. It will age well for two decades. While Beaulieu is no longer one of California's cutting edge wineries, this is classic stuff.

An extraordinary wine, dense, rich and earthy, with broad, plush tannins and tiers of complex currant, earth, cedar, black cherry, mineral and anise flavors. Keeps a tight focus on the long, rich, detailed aftertaste. 17,000 cases made.

Saturated ruby. Perfumed aromas of dark berries and exotic spices, plus a whiff of apple; showed a sweet bourbon note with aeration. Supple flavors of redcurrant and black cherry, along with a faint raisiny quality. Finishes with light tannins, a strong bourbon flavor and some dryness from the oak. Too oaky for this taster.

Another winner - by far the best bottle of this wine I've had (and I've had at least eight bottles before this). This is a shining example of a Napa Cabernet at its best. It doesn't gang-tackle your palette, but seduces with its soft, profound subtle cherry cola and cinnamon flavor profile. This Napa Valley icon is generally agreed to be one of the greatest wines ever produced in the Golden State, and I feel privileged to have enjoyed it. The producer has been making this wine for more than 100 years, and this vintage is considered its masterpiece. Anyone who loves wine, has heard of wine or can spell |wine| should buy a bottle immediately before it's gone. Don't miss this experience. Drinkable now, and to 2018 and beyond.

had with hockey Parents in Santa Rosa over Meat Pizza Good color and clarity, a little light in body, soft from the start with light fruit front start to finish. Easy drinking, could last another two years and be the same. Not going to get better.

Just wonderful now-a classic old-style CA cab. This is the 2nd bottle I've had and I have to confess that the one we opened a year ago was not nearly as good. Couldn't identify the undertone of bourbon flavor until I read Tanzer's note, but, hey, I love bourbon, so keep that in mind.

one of us thought it was |corked|. the other found it to be delightful--lots of spice--clove and cinnamon with dusty tannins but lots of ripe fruit remaining.

Structurally sound, yet the fruit had died. I'm afraid this wine has seen better days.

In 1900, when Georges de Latour's wife, Fernande, first laid eyes on the land that would become their original Rutherford vineyard, she named it "beau lieu," or "beautiful place." Shortly thereafter, de Latour sold his thriving cream of tartar business, bought the four-acre ranch and founded Beaulieu Vineyard with the vision of making Napa Valley wines that would rival those of his native France.Today the winery continues to turn to innovative practices to craft wines in a bold, classic style. They have become a leader in clonal research, and the BV Clone Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon wines are highly acclaimed. Most recently a new state-of-the-art winery was completed within one of the original buildings. The Georges de Latour Private Reserve Winery utilizes the latest technology in combination with time-honored traditions for the production of this exceptional, wine-the longtime benchmark of Rutherford Cabernet.
