A beautiful wine, with raspberry and floral aromas. Full-bodied, with silky, caressing tannins and a long, long finish. Gorgeous now, but will improve with age.

The terrifically fruity, quite flattering 1996 Barbaresco Vigneto Gallina is full-bodied, with outstanding concentration, plenty of earthy, plum/cherry, smoky, spice scents, low acidity, and moderate tannin in the layered finish.

Very good deep red. More plum and redcurrant fruitiness to stand up to the oak aroma; slightly minty. Sweet, lush and lovely, with very good acidity and strong fruit. Possesses more density to support the ripe, nicely integrated tannins. Minty and quite long. For the cellar.

Wow. This appears to be a more modern style of Nebbiolo, with concentrated fruit and some apparent oak overtones even at this age, but it couldn't be much more perfectly balanced. Garnet around the rim, intense, classic Nebbiolo aromas, high but well integrated tannins, complex blueberry and floral flavors and aromas. Balanced for the long haul but enjoyable now if you can handle the tannin level. A great bottle of wine.

Founded in 1977 by Lidia and Pin Rivetti, La Spinetta has grown from a small Piedmont producer of Moscato into a extensive operation which now also crafts Barbera, Barbaresco, and Barolo. Along with their original holdings in Piedmont, La Spinetta has also expanded into Tuscany, where they produce Sangiovese, Vermentino, and other native Tuscan varieties. La Spinetta is run by Pin's three sons - Carlo, Bruno, and Giorgio. As the head of production, Giorgio is also the face of the company. However, all three brothers work together on the business with the same ultimate goal - producing quality wine above everything else. Giorgio's wines are both approachable and designed to be enjoyed with food, and all of the wines are produced from 100% estate grown fruit. As validation of his innovation and success, Giorgio's debut Barolo, the 2000 Campe della Spinetta, earned a 98-point score from Wine Spectator.
