Firm, rich and supple, with a focused core of cherry, currant, anise, sage and cedar, and the oak in the background. The finish turns firm and mildly tannic.Author: James LaubeInternational Wine Cellar | Rating: 94
Fresh, dark ruby-red. Dusty, liqueur-like aromas of black cherry and cassis, with a scotch-like hint of oak. Sensuous and silky in the mouth; superripe but quite bright, thanks to sound supporting acids. A bit more sharply delineated than the above. Very youthful wine, finishing with a slow-building, very long aftertaste. Tannins are substantial but fine-grained.Author: Stephen TanzerIssue: May/June 1999Wine Advocate | Rating: 92
The outstanding 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville offers an opaque purple color, and knock-out aromas of creme de cassis, vanillin, and weedy tobacco. Full-bodied, rich, and muscular, as well as complex, this fleshy, deep wine is immensely impressive. As it sits in the glass, blueberry/blackberry aromas emerge, adding to its overall appeal.Author: Robert Parker

Slightly too barnyard for my liking. The fruit has disappeared. Smooth tannins but little finish.Author: ChrisMus
Robert Mondavi Winery was founded in 1966 and for decades has produced quality California wines that represent New World innovation on a global scale. The winery is located in Oakville, at the center of Napa Valley. The Mondavi family is well known for its dedication to research and experimentation in winemaking, as well as for helping establish the modern-day wine business in the post-Prohibition era. Some of Mondavi's innovations include the introduction of cold fermentation in stainless steel tanks and the use of French oak barrels in the late 1960s. Furthermore, Mondavi's technological innovations to improve the quality of wine and its focus on natural farming techniques have made a fundamental impact on the industry as a whole. For over 20 years Mondavi has been a leader in environmental responsibility, promoting sustainable farming and conservation.
The Robert Mondavi Winery produces wine in four categories: Napa Valley Wines, District Wines, Reserve Wines, and Limited Availability Wines. The Napa Valley wines are made from fruit blended across the region, whereas the District wines reflect the terroir of a particular appellation within the Valley. The Reserve wines are made from selected vineyard fruit that benefits from cellar aging. The Limited Availability Wines are unique varietal expressions (or blends) whose fruit is sourced from venerable vineyards throughout the Napa Valley and Carneros.
