1996 Domaine Philippe Charlopin-Parizot Chambertin Grand Cru

Interesting mocha, vanilla, spice character. Lots of wood, with a slight dryness on the finish, yet it has a fatness in the palate, with some blackberry and black cherry notes, and the richness is delicious. Still needs time as the finish remains a bit tough for now. Much better than previously reviewed.

Very classy red and black fruit aromas that offer plenty of Gevrey earth followed by very dense, full blown, structured flavors of impressive length. This is packed with potential because it is much denser than most '96s yet retains the vintage's fine sense of elegance and proportion.
