Deep red. Complex, fresh aromas of black cherry, raspberry, smoke, spice and licorice. Firm, intensely flavored and strong in extract. Strong acidity carries the slightly floral fruit through the very long, firm finish.

Still entirely primary on the nose with obvious earth notes and lovely complexity followed by noticeably oaky flavors that offer excellent focus and richness if not necessarily great density of material. There is both elegance and length and if this adds depth, especially on the finish, my rating will undoubtedly be conservative.

This medium-to-dark ruby/purple-colored offering has a magnificent nose of deeply ripe dark fruits intermingled with traces of underbrush and Asian spices. This fat, expressive, rich, expansive, and full-bodied wine has an awesome texture (pure velvet), gorgeous balance, and loads of showy and opulent fruit. Plump black cherries, plums, blueberries, and cassis are intertwined with minerals, earth, and hints of porcini mushrooms in this elegant, muscular wine's flavor profile.

Wow. Spicy blackberry aromas and flavors are matched by richness, power and a searing intensity as the vibrant acidity and tannins climax on the finish. Great length and focus.

  • Politics has always played a significant role in the history of French wine, for better or worse, and that is especially true for Domaine Meo-Camuzet. Parliamentarian Etienne Camuzet began buying up prime blocks in Burgundy's most prized vineyards in the early 1900s, and from this land winemaker Jean-Nicolas Meo continues the domaine's tradition of producing acclaimed wines. The family's holdings read like a "who's who" of the Cote d'Or; they have plots in Richeboug, Clos de Vougeot, Corton Clos Rognet, and Echezeauz, in addition to a longer list of Premier Cru and Village-level sites. Balance is the key for Meo, both in the vineyard and the cellar. With Henri Jayer consulting on winemaking, Jean-Nicolas creates domaine wines of excellence that reflect a true "sense of place." Meo-Camuzet also has a wine merchant arm, bearing the title Meo-Camuzet Frere & Soeurs, which sources fruit from Fixin, Marsannay, Chambolle, and Nuits-Saint-Georges.
