Definite brick on the rim. That bricky/decay note on the nose is very reminiscent of the nose of the 1989 ? a terroir effect? Nice balance. Very crisp and refreshing and racy with a good fruity core. Great balance ? this is no blockbuster but should make excellent drinking with food now. Fresh finish. Bravo!

Smooth and graceful, with a supple band of rich currant, mocha and chocolate-covered espresso bean, it holds a tight, rich focus, though turns dry and loamy on the finish.--1995 California Cabernet retrospective. Drink now. 5,000 cases made.

The 1995 Cabernet Sauvignon is richer and more intense in the mid-palate than the 1996, as well as more backward. The wine is high in tannin, extract, and richness, yet the overall elegance, symmetry, and harmony among its elements are present. This pure, black fruit-dominated wine should be at finest between 2003-2020.

I find both the 1995 and 1996 Cabernet Sauvignons to be graceful, elegant, and undeniably stylish.

Situated at the base of the Mayacamas Range on the Rutherford Bench, this sixty-one acre property has ideal soils, microclimate and location. The estate's potential was recognized by some of the first Napa Valley settlers and was planted to vineyards in the mid 1860's. Today the certified organic estate is home to the Staglins, fifty-one acres of vines, an underground winery, the historic homestead and a solar array.

Staglin is undoubtedly within the top tier of California Cabernet producers. In addition to the flagship Staglin Family Vineyard label, they also produce a Cabernet Sauvignon and a Chardonnay under the Salus label.
