A shade more elegant and refined than the '94, yet sharing the delicious range of flavors, with bright black cherry, plum and floral notes. Turns smooth and polished.--Opus One vertical. 30,000 cases made.

Another prolonged growing season with the harvest from late Sep to mid Oct. Cabernet Sauvignon 86%, Cabernet Franc 7%, Merlot 5%, Malbec 2%. Skin contact 39 days, 18 months in new French oak.A certain herbaceousness on the nose, though no shortage of ripeness underneath. Tea-leaf aromas. Mineral kick. Round and ready and plump and forward, though tannins insist at the finish. Good acidity. (More than the 1994.) Very good balance.

Medium brick colour. Intense nose of dried blackberries and cherries laced with complex aromas of coffee grounds, tobacco leaf, cumin and soy. Nice concentration of mature berry and spice fruit balanced by medium to firm, slightly chewy tannins and medium to high acidity. A more structured style of Opus. Very long finish. Tasted April 2009.

Quite dull at first but opened up nicely after an hour. Very simplistic and nothing to get excited about. Pleasurable but glad I don't have anymore. Drink now.

Ruby colored with a nose of spice and dark cherry. After two hours of air this opened up into a medium bodied well balanced wine in the Bordeaux style.

What a fantastic old-world style Bordeaux. Cooked berries, tobacco and pencil lead predominate. Medium-bodied, but still fills your entire palate. Has a long and glorious finish that makes your mouth water for more.

Opus One Winery was founded in 1979 as a joint venture between Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild. The wine is a collectible, Bordeaux-style blend that commands some of the highest prices in the Napa Valley. The winery itself is a building that is meant to be an expression of the wine by mixing elements of classical European and contemporary California style. Opus also produces a second wine, a non-vintage Cabernet called Overture.
