Appetizingly earthy and leathery up front, it then unfolds a supple core of herb-accented cherry and currant flavors. Turns complex on the finish and the tannins are polished. Needs time in the bottle. A blend: 63 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 23 percent Merlot, 9 percent Cabernet France, 4 percent Malbec, 1 percent Petit Verdot.

Deep, saturated ruby-red. Wild aromas of game and roasted nuts. Fat, layered and opulent, with smoke, leather and game flavors complicated by a slight vegetility. Rich, rather sophisticated texture. Finishes clean and fairly long, with ripe tannins. Not as thoroughly ripe as the best vintages of Cain Five, but a wine with plenty of personality.

This mid-sized, dark ruby-colored wine offers spicy, sweet black-cherry fruit in the nose and flavors, a polished, nicely-textured, restrained style, and a spicy, medium-bodied finish. It should drink well young, yet last for 8-12 years. (Tasted in barrel.)
