Dense and chewy, with a mix of ripe currant, plum and cherry along with touches of sage, olive and herb that offer complexity and depth. The finish picks up fresh earth and cedary, leathery nuances, along with an exotic spiciness. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.--California Cabernet '74/'84/'94 retrospective. 3,000 cases made.

The superb 1994 Les Pavots is, to my palate, the finest example of this wine Peter Michael has yet made. Since its bottling, this deep, saturated purple-colored wine has taken on a gorgeous nose of cassis intermixed with violets, licorice, and attractive spicy oak. Sweet, rich, and surprisingly showy for a Les Pavots, this medium to full-bodied wine possesses a luscious, multi-layered texture, outstanding depth, and attractively integrated tannin and acidity. When I tasted it, it was more evolved and delicious than I had anticipated given its recent bottling.

A very special bottle. Everything I want in a wine, all rolled up into one. Deep rich color, a wonderfully complex nose. A bit of iron fist in a velvet glove in the mouth. Absolutely no signs that this is nearing its end. Still full of vibrancy and grip. We all agreed this was spectacular.

    Classic Bordeaux flavors.

Inky purple with a nose of plum and violet. Blackberry fruit on the palate, with traces of iron and caramel flavors. Perfectly balanced with acidity to keep going. Long, long finish. Sensational bordeaux blend.

Peter Michael's estate vineyards (founded in 1982) are what make his wines truly exceptional. Sugarloaf Ranch sits high above Knights Valley in eastern Sonoma County, and from its rocky volcanic soil come Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The Alexander Mountain Estate Vineyard, above Alexander Valley, provides additional Chardonnay. All Peter Michael wines are site-driven single vineyard bottlings, whether from the estate or the limited sourced appellations. The line-up of estate wines is supplemented by a Pinot Noir from Pisoni Vineyard called "Le Moulin Rouge."
