his brilliant estate, adjacent to La Conseillante, Petrus, and Vieux-Chateau-Certan, has turned in exemplary efforts in 1993-95. Dark ruby/purple-colored, with a sweet raspberry/black truffle/earthy nose, this low acid, fleshy L'Evangile does not reveal any of the vintage's green pepper, vegetal characteristics. Soft, surprisingly powerful, and well-focused for a 1993, it possesses a sense of elegance as well as sweet black fruits nicely presented in a medium-bodied, smooth, cedary-flavored format. This impressive 1993 can be drunk now as well as over the next 10-15 years.Author: Robert ParkerWine Spectator | Rating: 87
Perhaps not as great as some people think, but it offers delicious berry, green tobacco and fruit aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied, firm tannins and crisp finish.Author: James Suckling
In 1990, Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) acquired L'Evangile from the Ducasse family, who had run the property since around 1900. DBR was interested in bringing sustained care to the operation. DBR's initial influence included a more refined selection of the fine wines, and the creation of Blason de L'Evangile as a second wine. Efforts also included enhancing the vines' health with a restoration and renewal plan partially completed until 1998. The complete renovation of the vat room and the cellar which was finished in 2004 allowed the property to complete its new configuration.
A remarkable decade of vintages from 1995 to 2005 crowned the work with success. Among these, 1995, 1996, 200 and an exceptional 2005 stand out!
