Earthy, reductive aromas of anise, tar, mineral and currant lead to similar flavors that are intense, with firm, leather-scented tannins. Supple for a young Dunn Howell Mountain.--1993 California Cabernet retrospective. 1,670 cases made.

The 1993 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain reveals an opaque black color, huge tannin, terrific purity, and density, a broad, heavyweight mouthfeel, and gobs of ripe tannin. It is a massive Cabernet Sauvignon that requires a decade of cellaring - at the minimum.

Interesting wine. very muted flavor and off putting aroma when opened. A couple of hours of air just in the bottle really brought out structure and fruit flavor. Was still improving as I polished off the last few drops. Could stand for a few more years but is probably past it's peak.

Possibly not quite at its peak yet. Disregard windows suggesting otherwise. Filet mignon on the nose, lots of cherry and anise on the palate. Great length, power and balance

Purple to the rim. Pure, balanced Cabernet. Earthy notes of sage and rosemary. Medium acidity and no noticeable tannin. Very smooth with absolutely no hard edges.

Very impressive dark fruit flavors and length. 4 hours of decanting. score it a 98, drink in 2016 again.

Dunn Vineyards is located east of St. Helena in the town of Angwin on Howell Mountain in Napa Valley. In 1972 Randy and Lori purchased the original vineyard property. The winery was established in 1979, with the first harvest of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. In 1981, the first release offered consumers 660 cases of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Howell Mountain vineyards. In 1982, Dunn also released their first Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.

Currently Dunn Vineyards produces around 5000 cases of extremely age-worthy Cabernet Sauvignon.
