Rating: 92Relatively austere and reserved with more minerality than Richebourg usually displays and it possesses outstanding flavor detail. There is still limited breadth of flavors but the intensity here is impressive as is the length and there is clearly a classiness here that is unmistakable. This is still extremely young and very backward in magnum format and this will require lots of additional bottle age to realize its full potential.Author: Allen Meadows
Rating: 90The Richebourg exhibits a dark ruby color, as well as flattering quantities of sweet, jammy, red and black fruits. With a husky framework and a sweet entry, this ripe, medium to full-bodied, moderately tannic, spicy, cleanly made wine needs 6-8 years of cellaring; it exhibits the potential for 15-20 years of evolution. The DRC's 1993s possess the vintage's toughness, tannic structure, austerity, and aging potential. They will not be flattering to drink in their youth, and most will require 6-10 years of cellaring. Typical of the vintage, they appear to be the most tannic and structured wines made at this domaine since 1983.Author: Robert Parker
Rating: 90Austere and tough in texture now, showing a dry, tannic edge. Offers compacted blackberry, dry cherry and vanilla character, accompanied by a somewhat green flavor. This is a closed wine that needs time to come together.
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) is Burgundy's most famous estate, producing all grand cru wines from 25 hectares of vines. The wines are made in extremely limited quantities and generate some of the highest prices on the market. DRC produces the grands crus Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Romanée-Saint-Vivant, Grands Échezeaux, Échezeaux, and Montrachet, of which both Romanée Conti and La Tâche are monopoles.
Co-proprietor Aubert de Villaine has farmed the vineyards organically since 1986 and has adhered to traditional, natural winemaking practices. Only natural yeasts are used, and aging is done in 100% new oak. The wines are characterized by finesse, balance, and refinement. They clearly reflect a sense of place and have the ability to age while increasing in both character and value.
