Here is another life-affirming bottle of 1993 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint Jacques from Rousseau. This example showed a little more maturity in colour, but the nose is entrancing and develops beautiful raspberry preserve, pomegranate, cool stone and bay leaf scents that are quite intoxicating. The palate is fresh, crisp and brilliantly focused. It is still a feminine Clos Saint Jacques, the tannin so fine and now abraded by time. Yes, it has a nonchalant, easygoing personality that almost distracts you from its innate complexity. This remains a wonderful wine.

Mid to dark crimson. Lovely intense, multi-layered nose. Rich and tight and very sensual. As though tightly drawn by a thread but with so much concentration and depth - and freshness. Just great! Really vital. Long, neat, clean with crunch and lots of subtle fruit. Super brisk and long as well. What a wonderful vintage to drink now.

Beautifully fruity and vibrant in character, packed with lively cherry and berry flavors that are focused, lingering and accented by buttery oak.

Poppoed and poured, drank over the following 4 hours. Dark ruby. Gorgeous, deep nose of spiced black cherry and sous bois. Focused and linear in the mouth, with a nice balance of acidity and tannins. Long, mouthcoating finish. Beautiful.

Founded just over 100 years ago, Domaine Armand Rousseau is a family-run winery considered to be among the best in Burgundy. Rousseau owns some of the most prestigious plots in Gevrey-Chambertin, and the resulting wines present the perfect distillation of the time-honored traditional methods of winemaking in Burgundy. The formula is simple—superb vineyards plus old vines plus low yields. This translates into wines of outstanding concentration that achieve a Burgundian balance of essential elegance and striking purity.
