Good full ruby-red. Complex aromas of crystallized berries, tobacco leaf and smoky, spicy oak; doesn't wear its oak as gracefully as the wines since 1994. Then full and sweet in the mouth, with a ripeness verging on raisiny. The roasted note repeats on the long finish. In the style of the '96, but without quite the depth of fruit of the later wine.

Smells like Vintage Port with plums and chocolate galore. Full-bodied, with velvety-soft tannins and a long, long finish. Delicious wine.

The awesome 1992 Maya is performing better than the 1991 did at a similar stage. It reveals a saturated purple color, as well as an intense fragrance of black-raspberries, cassis, flowers, and minerals. The wine possesses great fruit, superb density, wonderful purity and balance, and a compelling extra dimension both aromatically and texturally. It is destined to be one of California's legendary wines.

Racy and succulent to the core, the 1992 Maya impresses for its sheer depth. Black stone fruits, cloves, menthol, smoke and incense are some of the many notes that flesh out in a dramatic Maya endowed with tons of volume and equally intense tannins that ensure at least another handful of years of very fine drinking. The 1992 is a wine of pure texture and density.

From vineyards set 400 feet above the floor of Napa Valley, two critically-acclaimed powerhouse wines are crafted. Both the Cabernet Sauvignon (which includes just a touch of estate Cabernet Franc) and the Maya (a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc) showcase Oakville fruit in its most concentrated intensity. Production is limited to micro-quantities, making these wines sought-after prizes for collectors and wine enthusiasts alike.

Gustav and Naoko Dalla Valle bought their family estate in 1982, realizing their vision of producing world-class wine. The first vintages were 1986 for the Cabernet and 1988 for the Maya, which went on to earn a perfect 100-point score from Robert Parker for the 1992 vintage. Naoko Dalla Valle has maintained sole responsibility for the vineyards and winery since her husband's death in 1995. French enologist Michel Rolland consults bi-annually on winemaking and blending decisions.
