Wine Advocate | Rating: 94Very deep garnet in color, the nose is intensely scented with aromas of dried cherries and blackcurrant cordial over a pleasantly meaty / earthy undercurrent plus whiffs of menthol and dried lavender. Concentrated in the medium to full bodied mouth, it has a good amount of enlivening acid cutting through the dense, evolved fruit with a high level of approachable / softening tannins and long finish.Author: Lisa Perrotti-Brown
Rating: 17Wine was matured in new American oak hogsheads for 18 months. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Coonawarra, Kalimna Vineyard in Barossa Valley and McLaren Valley.Remarkably brilliant colour - a bit lighter than the other Penfolds 1990s previous wines. Nose is intense with persistent cool mint, black berries and very ripe raspberries. Like brushing your teeth with berries and mint - I feel refreshed and cool. Good fresh acidity, nice balance between alcohol and tannins. A bit of a spike in the mid palate - almost a bit peppery and then subsides into cool fruits. (VD)Author: Victoria Daskal
Wine Spectator | Rating: 92Dark and inviting, with a supple core of wild berry, mint and currant flavors that are rich and elegant, finishing with a long, smooth aftertaste. Retasted because of significant bottle variation; two of four bottles were clearly superior in separate tastings.
