  • Wine Spectator | Rating: 96

A well-toned monster, with a huge amount of ripe raspberry, cherry and earth aromas and flavors and tons of refined tannins. Goes on and on and on. A wine to welcome in the new century.
  • Wine Advocate | Rating: 94

The 1990 Ruchottes Chambertin Clos des Ruchottes from Rousseau continues to offer so much pleasure. There is that warmth of the growing season that billows from the glass: sloes and smudged red berry fruit, a touch of warm gravel and yes, even that sweet, heady strawberry shortcake scent that I remarked upon a couple of years ago. The palate is like a buxom aunt giving you a huge big hug: rounded, soft, laden with fruit, but counterbalanced with superb delineation. The acidity is so perfectly judged, offsetting the weight and intensity on the finish. Yes, a gorgeous Ruchottes-Chambertin. If you don't like this, you don't like Burgundy.

  • Burghound | Rating: 91

The classic truffle-infused Ruchottes nose is missing though the usual game, subtle earth and spice notes are present with remarkably rich, full, broad-scaled flavors that offer lovely balance and fine length. Many '90s are overly ripe and over the top but this remains balanced and really quite pure and understated if not particularly dense. In sum, this is an attractive and satisfying effort that is just now coming into its own.

  • Founded just over 100 years ago, Domaine Armand Rousseau is a family-run winery considered to be among the best in Burgundy. Rousseau owns some of the most prestigious plots in Gevrey-Chambertin, and the resulting wines present the perfect distillation of the time-honored traditional methods of winemaking in Burgundy. The formula is simple—superb vineyards plus old vines plus low yields. This translates into wines of outstanding concentration that achieve a Burgundian balance of essential elegance and striking purity.
