  • Wine Advocate | Rating: 91

The 1990 Riserva exhibits a broodingly deep garnet/plum color, sweet aromas of tobacco, chocolate, herbs, and dried cherries, full body, outstanding depth, and an impressive, yet tannic finish. Give it 5/6 years of cellaring.

Big and alcoholic. A full-bodied wine, with a mouthful of minty, spicy character and a long, fruity finish. Soft tannins. Slightly overdone.
  • Self | Rating:

This wine was completely closed and therefor hard to rate. It was a big disappointment, full of tannens, tastes of green wood and while it softened over time, it never ripened. in a blind tasting, I would never have guessed at 1990 Brunello

The rolling hills of Tuscany are home to ancient vines that grew wild long before modern times. Sangiovese is the variety of the region's best-known wines, Brunello di Montalcino and Chianti. In recent years, “Super Tuscans"—blends including non-native Bordeaux varieties—have gained in popularity and acclaim. The region's Mediterranean climate, with its warmer average temperatures, provides ideal conditions for the development of rich, structured, and age-worthy wines.
