1988 Beringer Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve
UNITED STATES / CALIFORNIA / NAPA
Wine Spectator | Rating: 88
Aging well, with earthy currant, anise, plum and cherry notes, it turns dry and leathery on the finish, yet manages to show a fleshy texture and bright fruit on the aftertasteAuthor: James LaubeWine Advocate | Rating: 85
Beringer continues to do everything right. Its staff of talented professionals may rank as the best in the business. Since 1984, its Private Reserve Cabernets have been among the top dozen Cabernets produced in California. These superior wines are not likely to stumble over the next several years. The only disappointment in recent Private Reserves is the 1988, but then, the vintage has a lot to do with Beringer's performance. The light 1988 exhibits good color, but not much substance, and a short finish.Author: Robert Parker
