  • Wine Spectator | Rating: 95

A wonderful, mature Champagne, offering toast, mushroom, honey and citrus aromas and flavors that evolve into a long walnut aftertaste. Its richness is offset by bracing acidity, yet not quite fully integrated. Full-bodied and aristocratic.

Knockout aromas of lemon, lime, toffee, grilled nuts, nutmeg and minerals; conveys a strong impression of soil character. Great thickness and brightness in the mouth; offers a compelling combination of lemon and orange citricity and complex yeast autolysis notes, and near-perfect harmony of young and maturing elements. This outstanding, elegant Champagne shows an extraordinary creamy richness yet is still rather folded in on itself. Has the sheer structure and grip to develop in bottle for a decade or two. Finishes with great nutty length. (Wilson-Daniels, Inc., St. Helena, CA)

Simply amazing. Dark apricot in color. For a 24 year old champagne, this still had quite a good amount of carbonation. The flavors were incredible. Lots of brioche and yeast, with just the slightest hint of bitternesss.

With production focused on just one champagne, consistent premier quality is the necessary mantra. Such is the situation for Salon, located in the tiny, quiet village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger in the highly-vaunted Cote des Blancs region of Champagne. The champagne hails from a 2.5-acre vineyard wholly owned by Salon and from 19 smaller parcels within Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, all of which are Grand Cru vineyards that receive the rarest of ratings - 100%.
