Last Tasted 1/94 A seductive, sweet, creamy nose of chocolate, cassis, and herbs is followed by an opulently-styled, soft, supple Cabernet that has quickly reached full maturity. The wine exhibits a judicious touch of toasty new oak. The finish is silky-smooth. Drink it over the next 5-6 years.

Mature, with complex currant, anise, dried plum and tar notes, it turns dry yet holds its fruit better than most, finishing with a persistent aftertaste that echoes mature Cabernet flavors.--California Cabernet '74/'84/'94 retrospective. 8,000 cases made.

Dark garnet red, browning on the edges. First blush: Major tar on the nose along with strong, dark sour fruit and piney wood/brush (woodruff?) aromas -- striking though not particularly pleasant. Delicious and mellow on the palate -- still some sweet fruit, raisins, molasses. Clean, slightly grassy finish with mellow and mature tannins. 30 mins breathing: same funky nose. I'm struck by the amount of fruit and glycerin still present in this wine, though it's clearly over the hill (unlike the 78 Latour, which was amazingly fresh).

Great color, light nose. Still has medium fruit flavors but not much complexity or finish.
