  • International Wine Cellar | Rating: 85

($89) Full red-ruby. Slightly funky aromas of baked plum, cedar, meat and leather. Rich and layered in the mouth, with exotic, slightly candied red fruit and leather flavors. Finishes a bit hard-edged and green.

Brickish rim and orange tinted red core. Initial impression is strongly sweet red fruit but also a minty freshness. Distinctive perfume. Fine density on the palate, wth lively fruit and great energy. Fully resolved though there's still an attractive dry grip on the finish. Long and fresh on the finsh, maybe just starting to dry a little. (JH)

  • Wine Advocate | Rating: 76

Except for the rather fecal, manure-like aromas, this wine offers fully mature, herb-tinged, sweet, jammy fruit in a medium-bodied, smooth and supple format. With airing, the nose becomes less objectionable, but this is not a clean wine. It is too funky and off-putting to invoke much excitement despite its soft, plush personality. Tasted 3 times since bottling with consistent notes.

This shows wonderful finesse. Brick red in color, with a garnet edge. Lovely perfumed aromas of blackberry and chocolate, with a hint of raisin. Medium-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long, sweet fruit finish. Drink now or hold.--1982 Bordeaux horizontal.

Clearly past it. Not much here, almost dusty. Did have a moldy capsule but no spoilage- just over the hill. No score.

Located in the southwest of France, Bordeaux is the single largest fine-wine-producing region in the world, with more than 15,000 growers spread over 57 appellations and more than 700 million bottles produced annually. The region boasts a two-thousand-year winemaking history and some of the wine world's most recognized and highly sought-after names. Red Bordeaux blends comprise eighty percent of production, but dry and sweet whites are also well-known. The region is divided into the Left and Right Banks (of the Dordogne River); Cabernet Sauvignon prevails in the former and Merlot in the latter.
