Garnet color, with ripe, spicy, high-toned cherry, plum and rose petal scents. It exhibits mature, sweet currant and plum flavors that pick up a dusty anise and cedar flavor. The sweetness of the fruit is impressive, as is the balance. Finishes with drying tannins, a characteristic of this vintage at this age.--California Cabernet '74/'84/'94 retrospective. Drink now. 9,000 cases made.

Last Tasted 6/94 A consistent star of the vintage, this fully mature wine exhibits no sign of losing its fruit. The color is saturated dark plum/garnet with slight amber at the edge. The bouquet has always been ostentatious, with pungent aromas of cassis, pepper, herbs, licorice, cedar, and Asian spices. Full-bodied and superbly balanced, with that layered, expansive richness found in top, highly extracted wines, the acidity is low but sound, and the tannin has nearly melted away. This stunning, opulent, complex California Cabernet Sauvignon should continue to drink well for another decade or more.

Very dark healthy crimson. Gorgeous coffee plus rich sweet fruit. Just lovely balance! So sweet and gorgeous. Complete. Any bordeaux would be so proud to taste like this! Neat - not massive but utterly seductive. Not much further to go.

  • Robert Mondavi Winery was founded in 1966 and for decades has produced quality California wines that represent New World innovation on a global scale. The winery is located in Oakville, at the center of Napa Valley. The Mondavi family is well known for its dedication to research and experimentation in winemaking, as well as for helping establish the modern-day wine business in the post-Prohibition era. Some of Mondavi's innovations include the introduction of cold fermentation in stainless steel tanks and the use of French oak barrels in the late 1960s. Furthermore, Mondavi's technological innovations to improve the quality of wine and its focus on natural farming techniques have made a fundamental impact on the industry as a whole. For over 20 years Mondavi has been a leader in environmental responsibility, promoting sustainable farming and conservation.

The Robert Mondavi Winery produces wine in four categories: Napa Valley Wines, District Wines, Reserve Wines, and Limited Availability Wines. The Napa Valley wines are made from fruit blended across the region, whereas the District wines reflect the terroir of a particular appellation within the Valley. The Reserve wines are made from selected vineyard fruit that benefits from cellar aging. The Limited Availability Wines are unique varietal expressions (or blends) whose fruit is sourced from venerable vineyards throughout the Napa Valley and Carneros.
