  • Among its Pomerol brethren, Chateau Nenin proves to be unique. With over 30 hectares under vine located adjacent to the city of Libourne, Nenin is one of only a scattered few large estates in its region. The structure itself, an elegant, two-storey 19th-century chateau, stands out in an otherwise unassuming Pomerol landscape. By the mid-1990s, Nenin's history of inconsistent successes, checkered with ostensibly lackadaisical winemaking, opened the door for a super-second inspired makeover project.

In 1997, Jean-Hubert Delon of Chateau Leoville Las-Cases acquired Nenin and undertook a radical restructuring of vineyards and facilities. Delon also hired winemaking guru Michel Rolland as consulting oenologist. Eager to prove himself on the Right Bank, Delon is passionate about Nenin and pays it the same attention to detail as Las-Cases. The resulting wine, "has become much fuller, more powerful with cleaner black fruits and chewy tannins," according to Neal Martin, and Robert Parker comments, "The new regime has swiftly put the wine back into the first division of Pomerol chateaux."
