Barbera
Barbera thrives in hot, dry climates, so it is well-suited to its historical home, the Piedmont region. The most well-known examples are Barbera d'Alba and Barbera d'Asti. It is also grown in warm climates such as the San Joaquin Valley in California where it is used for bulk wine. Barbera has the tendency to be high in alcohol and acid, but low in tannins. Typical descriptors for Barbera include red fruit, currants, cranberries and blackberries.
