Chenin Blanc
Chenin Blanc is the backbone for many of the exceptional white wines of France's Loire Valley. Chenin Blanc's versatility lends itself to blending with a broad range of wines including crisp, dry table wines, light, refreshing sparkling wines, and rich, nectar-like dessert wines. Beyond France, South Africa and California are also enjoying success with this variety. South Africa, where Chenin Blanc has been growing for decades (under the name Steen), devotes a third of its vines to the variety. Typical descriptors for Chenin Blanc include quince, apples, honey, beeswax, wool, peaches, barley sugar, marzipan, and wild plums.
