This Champagne house was established in 1832 by Félix-Désiré Delbeck in Reims. A Flemish banker who invested heavily in vineyards, Delbeck was also the husband of Balsamie Ponsardin, niece of the renowned Veuve Clicquot. Champagne Delbeck quickly became a favorite of the King and his Court, and in 1838 it was named the official Champagne of the French monarchy. The "house style" is full-bodied from the high percentage of Pinot Noir in the blends and toasty from lengthy ageing on the yeast lees.
Maison Delbeck only produces a Vintage Champagne in exceptional years. The wine then serves as a lasting tribute to a special harvest. Made from 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, this is a blend of the finest cuvees pressed from grapes exclusively sourced from the cru classified vineyards of Bouzy, Ambonnay, Avize, and Chouilly. The wine is aged for over 8 years on the lees, and the resulting sensational flavors are almost enough to make you cry.
