2005
Robert-Denogent - Pouilly-Fuisse Les Reisses Vieilles Vignes
Very pure, fresh, elegant. A lovely time to drink this wine. Otherwise might have to wait 2-3 years for a different experience.
2005
Robert-Denogent - Pouilly-Fuisse Les Carrons Vieilles Vignes
Golden apples drying in my grandmother's pantry, a slight whiff of smoke. OK I was seduced. Ripe, yet crisp and well structured with a hint of saltiness. Long golden apple finish. Not outstandingly complex but very pleasant drinking now.
1986
Corley Reserve - Cabernet Sauvignon
Seductive nose of eucalyptus, coffee and cedar. Medium bodied with fresh elegant finish. Probably won't improve but drinking very pleasantly now. California Cabernets can age
1985
Laurel Glen - Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma Mountain
Spoke to Pat C. today and thought I'd try an old bottle of his I had. Good idea. Another bit of proof that some CA cabs age gracefully. Especially seductive on the nose: ripe plum, honey, long. Medium bodied, balanced on the palate in a lower alcohol, elegant style. Finishes simply. Open up if you have one; a nice surprise.
2001
Clos de Sarpe
black currants, fresh blood, old books....this is pure from-nowhere-else-in-the-world bordeaux. dark to the point of opaque, dense and tannic this is nowhere near its peak. in fact, my remaining 5 bottles are going to some dark corner of the cellar. has the makings of something extraordinary.
