2008 Cline - Zinfandel Ancient Vines (California)
Made from vines more than 100 years old, this wine is concentrated and deep, with brambly bright cherry and hint of white pepper on the finish. Very pure tasting. The "old vines" character comes through. An excellent representation of the varietal.

2006 Loring - Pinot Noir Aubaine Vineyards
Highly extracted and concentrated - reminds me of a 2004 Sea Smoke Southing. Shiraz-like. Succulent, earthy and deep. Can't believe I paid what I did for this bottle, but I could see how avid Pinot-philes might enjoy it.

2007 Guigal, E - Cotes du Rhone Blanc
Butter and pear on the nose; fairly good weight on the palate; slightly bitter almonds on the finish, which lasted about 15 secs. Good acidity for a CdR Blanc.

2006 Monte Antico - Toscano Rosso
Utterly fantastic value and ready to go. Classic Super-Tuscan profile. Balanced, generous fruit, good acidity and tannin. Hard to believe this sells for less than $10. Probably won't evolve with bottle age, but who cares? It's wonderful now. Highly recommended!

What food(s) to pair with a mature Hermitage and Musigny?
<P>There are  some bottles in my cellar that I need to drink down this year.  They include a 1997 Vogue Musigny Vielle Vignes and a Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle from the same vintage.  I've been reading...
