1967
Alfredo Prunotto - Barolo Riserva
Decanted for 1-2 hours. Cloudy ruby with a touch of brown. Sour cherry, menthol and a whiff of tar in the mouth. A touch of va but still quite a nice wine. lots of life left.
2005
Sylvie Esmonin - Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St-Jacques 1er Cru
Similar notes to the csj dinner. Dark, dark ruby. Beautiful, spicy nose driven by dark fruits and tobacco. creamy, but not in an overbearing new world sense. very stemmy. long, powerful finish. Gorgeous.
1995
Marquis d'Angerville - Volnay Clos des Ducs 1er Cru
Popped and poured, drank over the following 4 hours. Bright ruby color. Dusty and juicy. Less angular than most ducs I've had. More expansive in the mouth. But still has the great sense of minerality, and a great acidic and tannic structure. long finish. Beautiful wine.
1993
Robert Arnoux - Echezeaux
Deep nose of ripe pinot fruit and wild raspberries, with great sous bois and sauvage aromas. Great balance in the mouth between the tannins and acidity, with a long mouthcoating finish. beautiful.
1976
JJ Prum - Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling BA Long Gold Cap
Popped and poured. Sadly notes sparse at this point, but WOW. Incredibly deep nose of spiced fruit and flowers. Beautiful texture in the mouth, and despite the great sweetness, the acidity gives it definition and cut. Unbelievably long finish. Off the charts.
