Gruaud Larose
Wow. Beautiful ruby-garnet with slight ambering at the edges. Awesome nose of leather, tar, earth, meat and black fruit. On the palate, lots of acidity and mellow tannins, and big, mature black fruit with a complex, spicy (mint? herbs?) finish. Long finish. Plenty of spunk left in this wine, though time has clearly mellowed what must have been hard to drink a couple of decades ago. Takes a SOLID three hours in a decanter to really open up.

Grand-Puy-Lacoste
dark ruby, slightest ambering on the rim. Big nose of black fruit, spice/bramble, leather. Low-medium acidity, black fruit on the palate, a little smoke, rich but not over concentrated, but still plenty of powerful -- yet mellow -- tannins. Nice smooth finish. On breathing, got smoother and aromas of chocolate/espresso emerged. Give the next bottle a few years.

Larkin - Cabernet Franc
Not sure how to evaluate this as I've never had Cabernet Franc before. Clear ruby color, delicous nose of red fruit and a little licorice/tar. Very interesting taste. Cabernet-like, but with a distinct bitterness (or extreme tannic bite) that cuts through the fruit. It's bracing -- which is a mixed blessing, enjoymentwise -- but very interesting. Clearly a very well made wine. Not sure what to make of it ...

Ducru-Beaucaillou
All grass and manure but delicious and balanced. Very aged but still delicious. Talk about terroir!!! I'll miss this wine.

Mount Eden - Cabernet Sauvignon Estate
Drinks like a $80+ Napa cab. Very nice. Will try the 01.
