2003
Laurent, Dominique - Corton-Charlemagne
Yellow gold in color. Low rim variation. Clear minerality on the nose coupled on the palette with what we agreed was baked apples, slight honeysuckle and lemon curd. Simply beautiful.
2005
Dare - Cabernet Franc
Garnet/purple in color. Low rim variation. Drinking very well now. Typical of warmer climate Cab Franc, it has the peppery aspect desired by blenders but the raspberry/cherry and floral aspects (fruit driven) are more present in this one. Took me two days to get through, very pleasant.
2002
Viader - V
Wow what a wine. Luscious is a great descriptor: silky but spine-stiffening tannins from the P. Verdot, black fruits together with subtle floral notes and earth/brown tobacco/tar mated very nicely by the presence of balanced oak. This is what Howell Mountain fruit can do, I wish I had more.
2001
Reignac
Bret like nose at first blew off after a day, giving way to earth, green tobacco, plum fruits. Nothing to write home about.
2001
Tangles - Cabernet Sauvignon
Probably the finest California Cabernet I drank all last year. Dusty/earthy notes complimented by dark fruits and balanced oak. This is how CA Cab should be.
