From their 21-acre Grigsby Vineyard just next to Stags Leap District, Eric Grigsby and Mary Fran Rocca source the Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah for their highly-regarded wines. This vineyard, planted in 1991 and purchased by Eric and Mary Fran in 1999, sits on the benchland of the Vaca Mountains, where the vines benefit from the warmer climate to the north and the cooling influences of the San Francisco Bay to the south. Celia Welch serves as winemaker, presiding over a program of gentle fruit handling: long, slow fermentations, light pressing, and extended barrel aging. The result is rich, full-bodied wines, balanced and ageworthy. In 2000 a second vineyard, Canamagi, was purchased. Younger lots from this vineyard and the Grigsby go into the H. Gray wines, which are more fruit forward in style.
