Reichsrat von Buhl
The von Buhl estate has ridden the roller coaster of ascendancy and decline, but happily is on the rise again, producing Rieslings of high quality from the Pfalz region of Germany. Founded in 1849 by Franz Peter Buhl, a Bavarian parliamentarian, the estate enjoyed German wines' great success in the late 19th century before falling into disrepair as the early decades of the 1900s brought calamity for much of Europe. An influx of investment from a Japanese consortium in 1989 provided the funding necessary for a revitalization of the estate, and new cellars have allowed winemaker Frank John to maximize the impressive vineyard holdings, in the villages of Forst and Deidsheim.
