Classified as a Second Growth estate, Château Léoville Poyferré is a rising star in Bordeaux, well-known for its aromatic and velvety wines. In recent years, the style has leaned toward a more complex and rich nature, and the estate has been receiving increasingly positive reviews. The vineyards are planted to a majority Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc comprising the remainder. The Saint-Julien property has been owned by the Cuvelier family since 1921, and Didier Cuvelier has been in charge of the estate since 1979. Much of the chateau's recent praise is due to Cuvelier, with the advice of consultant Michel Rolland, who has implemented many improvements to quality and style at Leoville Poyferre. In addition to its grand vin, the estate produces a second wine called Moulin Riche.
