The area is a satellite of St.-Emilion and enjoys a reputation for producing quality wines at reasonable prices. Owner Pascal Lucin inherited this tiny parcel (.8 hectares) with over 40% pre-phylloxeric vine stock from his grandfather. This is a micro-cuvee of grand proportions and it reflects Lucin's strict dedication to bringing out the unsurpassed quality of these rare vines. Of added interest is that along with the usual Bordeaux varieties - Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon - there is also a bit of Carmenere (3%) in the blend. In the vineyard, these are vines that perform as a field blend; that is, they are planted side-by-side, somewhat randomly, rather than being separated into variety-specific blocks.
