Clos Louie
The area is a satellite of St.-Emilion and enjoys a reputation for producing quality wines at reasonable prices. Owner Pascal Lucin inherited this tiny parcel (.8 hectares) from his grandfather, and what a rare parcel it is - 40% is pre-phylloxeric vine stock! This is a micro-cuvee of grand proportions and it reflects Pascal's strict dedication to bringing out the unsurpassed quality of these rare vines. Of added intrigue is the fact that along with the usual Bordeaux suspects - Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon - there is also a bit of Carmenere (3%) in the blend. In the vineyard, these are vines that perform as a field blend; that is, they are planted side-by-side, somewhat randomly, rather than being separated into variety-specific blocks.
