Variety is the spice of life and we've found the perfect way to put some flavor into your wine stash. A mixed case of high-scoring, crowd-pleasing wines will satisfy your every "What do I serve tonight?" crisis.
Start off your custom mix with the non-vintage Billecart-Salmon Brut Rose (WA 94), a perfect bubbly for a special celebration. Add in bottles of a domestic favorite, the 2006 Herman Story Grenache Larner (VF 97); its dark berry fruit and spice make it a great match for a variety of summer dishes and backyard get-togethers.
Add some serious Bordeaux to your case with the phenomenal 2000 Troplong-Mondot (WA 95), christened "the finest wine from Troplong-Mondot since the staggeringly great 1990." You won't want to miss the boat on a wine like that. Another Parker 95-pointer for your collection should be the 2004 Isole e Olena Cepparello. This 100% pure Sangiovese is an extraordinary Tuscan, undoubtedly worthy of more than one slot in your case.
Finally, rounding out the mix of big reds is a third Parker favorite, the 2005 Vina Magana, Calchetas Tinto (WA 95) from Navarra, Spain. Every collection needs some delayed gratification, and this is a bottle to lay down for a few years. After 4-6 years this Merlot, Cabernet, Malbec blend will be in full bloom!
With wines like these, there's no reason not to put some spice into your collection today. Don't delay; special wines like these will be flying out the door...by the case!

Billecart-Salmon is one of my favorite Champagne houses, and their non-vintage Rose (Lot #L85547401905M) is a consistent winner. A delicate pink color is accompanied by gorgeous sweet cherry, strawberry, and mineral-like scents, assertive medium-bodied flavors, a delicate, crisp personality, and surprising depth as well as persistence. A beautiful berry character in the finish adds to this impeccable rose's captivating style.

Chris Brockway has created a delicious blended red that will surprise those who taste it with the dynamic integration found in the aromas and flavors. Chris is the 8th generation nephew of Vine Starr Brockway, and a name like that was bound to wind up on a wine bottle sooner or later. 2006 is the premiere release, and Vinfolio is first to bring it to you. One of the best values for the price in a wine under 250 cases. Don't be shy about this one.
Arrowhead Mountain Vineyard Zinfandel makes up 2/3 of the blend, along with 30% Syrah, 2% Petite Sirah and 1% Mourvedre. Showing aromas of flint, cherry and herb in the nose. The palate is richly framed with pretty boysenberry and licorice. The wine surprises with the amount of viscosity and velvet-like smoothness, excellent acidity with mouth-watering cranberry, graphite and plum on the finish.

Richly layered, with currant paste, Black Forest cake, espresso, mesquite, date and incense notes. Ripe and lush, this is far more supple than most of its 2005 peers. The finish is long and dense, but very silky, with lingering notes of macerated fruit and black tea. 30 cases imported.

Aldo Conterno's 2004 Barolo is simply beautiful. A medium red, it presents a feminine expression of Nebbiolo in its perfumed, spiced red raspberries and cherries. This is a soft, accessible Barolo ideal for near and mid-term drinking that fully captures the essence of this great vintage. Beginning with the 2004 vintage, this wine includes fruit from 15-year-old vines in Colonnello, a vineyard with sandier soils that lies on the border with Barolo. In the past this fruit was used for the Langhe Favot but now it makes up about 30% of the blend for the Barolo. As a result this bottling now carries the Barolo designation rather than the Barolo Bussia name which was used for previous vintages.

Good full medium red. Very ripe aromas of strawberry, licorice, minerals and truffle, with balsamic and dried floral nuances. Fat, sweet, rich and deep; at once succulent and seamless, with a wonderfully layered texture and great early appeal. Very full without coming across as weighty. The slow-building finish features substantial sweet tannins. "Shows the magic side of 2001," Franco offers. "It can keep for a long time but it's great right now." By the way, 2001 was the seventh consecutive vintage in which this wine was bottled, but there will be no '02, '03 or '04.

Inky ruby. Remarkably floral bouquet of strawberry, blackberry and kirsch, with lovely rose and violet building in the glass. Stains the palate with sweet red and dark berry liqueur flavors, picking up exotic floral pastilles with air. Becomes more stony and vibrant on the long, zesty finish, which echoes the red fruit flavors.

The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Kayli Morgan (1,000 cases) is beautifully broad, savory, and full-bodied, and even though it is all Cabernet Sauvignon, it always comes across like an exotic Merlot from Pomerol, especially the famed Le Pin. Seductive and sensual, with notes of cedar, sweet kirsch, graphite, and spice, the wine is full-bodied, layered, gorgeously plump, and thrilling to drink now and over the next 10-15 years. It is French in style, but with the exuberance and gorgeous fruit purity of Napa Cabernet Sauvignon.

The estate's 2004 Cepparello (100% Sangiovese aged in French oak, 1/3 new) was made from minuscule yields of just 600 grams per plant and is even better than the 2003. It exhibits a livelier color, fresher aromatics and a nuanced personality, all the products of a more balanced growing season. It boasts layers of vibrant fruit intermingled with subtle mineral and licorice notes, showing outstanding length on the palate and fine, noble tannins. A wine of extraordinary elegance, it has been stunning on the two occasions I have tasted it so far. That said, readers who want to experience this wine's full array of tertiary notes will have to give this wine time to mature in the bottle. It is highly recommended.

In the super-hot 2003 the best positions suffered the most, as is demonstrated by this year's Cannubi Boschis. Though it shows attractive notes of spices, toasted oak, licorice and dark fruit, the wine is overwhelmed by its hard tannins. Today it comes across as unbalanced and lacking the harmony of the best vintages here. That said, this powerhouse Barolo has evolved surprisingly since I first started tasting it two years ago and Sandrone has an outstanding long-term track record, so it will be interesting to see how this wine develops over the next few years. For now, the edge goes to Le Vigne.

The second sensational Grenache from this world-class site shows aromas of saturated black raspberry sifted with smooth cassis, anise and hints of vanilla pod. The palate is dusty-smooth molten licorice, black raspberry, cassis and hints of spice and jasmine, leading to the textured dusty finish lasting for 30 seconds. Following 36 hours of air, the delicate nuances of Grenache waft from the glass, the palate redolent of raspberry.

Combining remarkable elegance allied to considerable power and depth, this is the finest wine from Troplong Mondot since the staggeringly great 1990. Its saturated purple color is followed by aromas of ink, creme de cassis, graphite, and toasty oak. Full-bodied and powerful, with excellent balance, this is a wine of extraordinary richness and massiveness yet surreal freshness as well as vibrancy. The finish lasts for over 45 seconds and nearly conceals some hefty tannins. With fabulous definition, richness, and intensity, this is a compelling 2000.

(this and the subsequent wines were tasted from concrete tanks, where they were still aging with their fine lees) Pungent aromas of citrus peel, pepper and licorice, along with a buttery nuance. Rich, fat, sweet and smooth, with a note of clementine that continues the Meursault theme. This big boy boasts excellent balancing acidity and an alcohol level of around 13%. Finishes surprisingly tight and brisk, with excellent length.

The 2005 Calchetas is composed of 50% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 15% Malbec aged for 19 months in 500-liter French oak. Opaque purple-colored, it delivers a complex perfume of pain grille, mineral, earth, spice box, black currant, and black cherry. Bordering on opulent, with layers of ripe, sweet fruit and great balance, this full-flavored effort needs 4-6 years of additional cellaring to reveal its full potential. It will be at its best from 2015-2030.
