Rivers-Marie & Rhys: Mailing List Must-Haves
September 21, 2009

Tips on placing a successful bid:
  • Research current retail and auction price data at www.wineprices.com to determine a fair and realistic bid price.
  • Consider that the seller is charged a 15% to 20% commission, as well as shipping (if the wine is not in Vinfolio storage).
  • Note the location from which you’d like your wine to be sourced. Wine in Vinfolio storage can usually be fulfilled more quickly upon bid acceptance.
  • Make sure the quantity you are bidding on is actually available in the Marketplace.
  • Remember, sellers are not obligated to sell their wine, but placing a fair and realistic bid will improve your chances of success.
“This relatively new but exceptionally promising winery is the pet project of Thomas Rivers Brown and Genevieve Marie Welsh, who have yet again produced a stunning range of wines that are well worth your attention. If you're not on the mailing list, this is one that you absolutely want to be on.” - Allen Meadows, on Rivers-Marie

Rhys Vineyards produces very ambitious wines from vines planted in specific sites in the Santa Cruz Mountains. They use their second label, Alesia, for purchased fruit. At the conclusion of my tasting notes, I will list the other wines I tasted but which were all in such microscopic quantities (under 150 cases) that it is almost impossible to latch on to a few bottles unless you are on the mailing list. This is an impressive, well thought out operation, believing, certainly with Pinot Noir, in whole clusters, no racking, and a minimal, artisinal approach to winemaking. The yields are naturally very small because of the terroirs, rootstocks, and clones, and the wines are made to age.” - Robert Parker

Please note that the suggested bid price is based on what Vinfolio would charge for this wine if we were selling it in our online wine store. This is merely a recommended price on which to base your bid; it does not guarantee that your bid will be accepted. You are not required to submit this as your bid price, though we do recommend you read the "Tips on placing a successful bid" located on the right side of this email.
