Joseph Phelps - A Premier Napa Valley Producer
September 8, 2009
At times, Joseph Phelps Vineyards is so low profile that it hardly stands out, despite its status as a premier Napa Valley producer. This reticence is a reflection of the owner's personality and style: Joe Phelps is shy and introspective, preferring to let his deeds and wines speak for themselves.

Phelps doesn't seek publicity, so he's rarely in the spotlight. He prefers that his wines win the accolades… He moved to Napa in the early 1970s, and today presides over one of California's greatest wineries, which routinely produces monumental wines. He displays a willingness to experiment, seize opportunities and explore new territories… Phelps may lack the charisma of some of California's higher-profile vintners. But beneath his stoic demeanor is a man of deep convictions, creativity and vision.”

Joseph Phelps’ wines do speak for themselves, with quality and integrity, year after year and over decades of cellaring by avid collectors.  Several vintages of this iconic name in California winemaking are open for bidding in the Vinfolio Marketplace.  Place your bid today.

Please note that the suggested bid price is based on what Vinfolio would charge for this wine if we were selling it in our online wine store. This is merely a recommended price on which to base your bid; it does not guarantee that your bid will be accepted. You are not required to submit this as your bid price, though we do recommend you read the "Tips on placing a successful bid" located on the right side of this email.

Learn more about how the Marketplace works: Tips on placing a successful bid:
  • Research current retail and auction price data at www.wineprices.com to determine a fair and realistic bid price.
  • Consider that the seller is charged a 15% to 20% commission, as well as shipping (if the wine is not in Vinfolio storage).
  • Note the location from which you’d like your wine to be sourced. Wine in Vinfolio storage can usually be fulfilled more quickly upon bid acceptance.
  • Make sure the quantity you are bidding on is actually available in the Marketplace.
  • Remember, sellers are not obligated to sell their wine, but placing a fair and realistic bid will improve your chances of success.
