The Vinfolio Marketplace Coming July 2009
Launching early July 2009, the Vinfolio Marketplace promises to be the world's largest online fine wine marketplace by aggregating hundreds of thousands of wines from the VinCellar community and other partners into one collective buying and selling space. The Vinfolio Marketplace integrates Vinfolio's cutting-edge wine store with new features offered in VinCellar, making it easy for individuals to buy and sell fine wine.
- No hassles – No listing fees, no minimum quantities, no time constraints, and no other advance work needed.
- No delay – Your wines are available to bidders immediately after you mark them for sale.
- 100% control – There's no commitment to sell until you get the price you want.
- Completely anonymous – Vinfolio inspects, ships and oversees all Marketplace transactions.
- Competitive fees:
- 15% when wine is sold from Vinfolio storage.
- 20% when sold from any other U.S. location.
- Above fees subject to $8/bottle minimum.
- Cumulative volume discounts available.
- Fast weekly payments after wine is received and passes inspection (read inspection guidelines).
- Broad sales exposure in the U.S. and internationally, maximized through Vinfolio's marketing engine.
With millions of bottles of fine wine drawn from private cellars managed with VinCellar and its partners, expect Vinfolio Marketplace to be the first place wine collectors and enthusiasts go to buy fine wine. Buyers can look forward to an array of benefits when Vinfolio Marketplace opens for bidding in early July 2009, including:
- Unmatched selection of wine from potential sellers.
- Simple process to place and respond to bids.
- No time-based auctions mean that a bid can be accepted immediately and sellers compete to be first.
- Seamless integration with Vinfolio's cutting-edge wine store.
- Easy-to-use tools which make it simple to find specific wine or to be alerted when wine becomes available that matches your personalized selection criteria.
- No buyer's premium on any Vinfolio Marketplace purchases.
- Purchases will count toward Vinfolio Priority Program status.
- Wine inspected by Vinfolio.

- Buyer places bid – Wine name, quantity, bottle size, and credit card info. Price is optional. Desired wine need not be "for sale" to place a bid.
- Notification sent to all sellers – All sellers matching bid requirements are notified simultaneously. Sellers may configure notification filters using various parameters to screen undesired bids.
- Seller accepts bid – First acceptance wins and ends auction immediately; buyer's credit card is charged or any seller may respond with an asking price, but any new bid is sent to all relevant sellers.
- Seller sends wine to Vinfolio – If wine is not in Vinfolio storage, individual seller sends wine to Vinfolio within 2 weeks or transaction is rescinded.
- Vinfolio inspects wine – Wine must pass Vinfolio's inspection guidelines or transaction is rescinded.
- Wine transferred to buyer – Title passes to buyer. Wine placed in Vinfolio storage where buyer can initiate a shipment upon demand.
