Shipping policy
The following policy governs all domestic U.S. shipments of wine from Vinfolio through common carriers.
This policy does not govern customer pickups, deliveries by Vinfolio's temperature controlled vans,
transport by temperature-controlled freight carriers or international shipments.
Vinfolio is dedicated to ensuring that the provenance and
value of wine you order from and/or store with us is protected. That's why we do the following:
- Provide you with up to 6 months of free storage in our temperature-controlled warehouse on all Vinfolio wine purchases.
- Adhere to a shipping policy designed to ensure your wine arrives in the same condition as when it left our warehouse.
However, we understand that you may wish us to ship wine in a way that does not conform to our policies. For any shipment, you may request to override our policy at your own risk.
Vinfolio's Wine Shipping Policy
- Adverse weather conditions: Adverse weather conditions are those that may damage a wine in transit. We define these as temperature readings or predicted temperatures (as predicted by Accuweather.com) of greater than 75 degrees or less than 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Temperatures are considered at our warehouse on the shipping date and at the destination location on the estimated arrival date.
- Monday/Tuesday shipping: All orders will be shipped on Mondays or Tuesdays to ensure the minimum time in transit and maximum likelihood that delivery will be complete before the following weekend.
- 2 to 3 day air service: Vinfolio recommends the use of 2 or 3 day air service for all shipments outside of California. During adverse weather conditions, we recommend Overnight delivery service.
- Weather checks: Vinfolio will perform a weather check prior to shipping and will hold any shipment that is expected to experience adverse weather conditions (as defined above). We refer to this type of hold as a "weather hold."
- Initial weather hold notification: If your shipment is subject to a weather hold, you will be notified by email by close of business (Pacific Time) on your shipment date. Upon an initial weather hold, you may ask us to waive the hold by returning the email or calling Customer Service. If you do not respond, we will automatically attempt to ship the following week.
- Second shipping attempt: By default, all orders on weather hold will be re-examined for adverse weather conditions the following week. If adverse weather conditions are still present, orders will again be placed on weather hold.
- Second weather hold notification: If your shipment is subject to a second weather hold, you will again be notified by email by close of business (Pacific Time) on your shipment date. You may ask us to waive the weather hold by returning the email or calling Customer Service. If you do not respond, we will transfer your order into customer storage at our temperature controlled warehouse the following week. It will remain there until you re-request shipment.
- Tracking numbers: Once your shipment has been sent, you will receive an automatic email from the carrier containing the tracking number and information for your shipment.
Vinfolio strongly recommends the following additional guidelines for shipping your wine.
- Next day service: This ensures the minimum amount of transit time.
- Only ship to a business address: We recommend that all shipments are sent to a business address or an address that is equipped to receive shipments during standard business hours. This ensures your shipment won't remain in vans or warehouse facilities overnight without temperature controls.
- Ensure the presence of a receiver of legal age: All Vinfolio packages require a signature from someone who is 21 or older. We only ship to addresses where the customer notifies us that someone of legal age will be present during normal business hours. Carriers will not deliver packages to under age persons and a failed delivery attempt will cause a delay in receipt and may introduce weather-related risk of damage.
- Contact the carrier: If your ability to receive the package on the first delivery day changes, contact the carrier as soon as possible to make alternate arrangements.
- Consider storage at Vinfolio's warehouse: If you live in an area that is routinely subject to adverse weather conditions, use our warehouse to store your wine. The first 6 months are free for wine purchased from us and afterwards, the fees are minimal.
