I am trying to set up and use a Honeywell 3820 scanner with my Mac-OS 10.5.8 with Firefox 3.6.12 and am having difficulty understanding functionality and set up. This scanner was a gift and, unfortunately, not purchased through Vinfolio. I have plugged it in and paired it with the base station and have even been able to get the Bluetooth on my computer to recognize it-and create a com port. When I try to scan something besides a label I have printed, I get 3 rather obnoxious beeps and a red light. When I try to scan a wine label, I get a single, less obnoxious, but still unhappy beep-and a red light. Do I need software or a driver for this unit to communicate with Vincellar? I see on the Honeywell site there is software for Windows of some nature, but not Mac. The unit, I am told, was purchased at macmall.com and was offered as a multi-platform scanner.... it is still offered as such on their web site. Help anyone?

After speaking to a very kind tech support gentleman at Vinfolio, I contacted customer support at Honeywell regarding my problem with the 3820 scanner. I promptly received from Honeywell bar codes to set up the scanner as a USB keyboard on the Mac OSX and they worked perfectly. Like another person who posted, I too had problems reading the removable labels with the scanner. Simply taking the label off the bottle and placing it on a flat surface solved that issue. Hopefully, this post will help anyone else having similar issues! |
