Is anyone using a Wine Cellar unit (as opposed to an actual wine cellar, or modified room)? I have been going through many ideas and searches, and, although I would love to build a room for my wines, it does not seem feasable when placed against the cost of just purchasing a wine cellar applicance.

I am looking at the Vintage Keeper 110, if it is still available here, or will wait for the new models to come out. Anyone have any experience with these units? Any other recommendations? I know there are many out there and these are the most "economical". Thanks everyone! laugh.gif

I'm not certain if this is what you're asking. . .However, I recently completed building a separate wine storage area. . .It's a 20 ft x 5 ft area on the north side of my house (Important to get it away from direct exposure to summer heat). It has floor-to-ceiling rack-storage along both 20 ft walls, allowing a 3 ft wide space for walking & viewing the racks. It holds approximately 1200 bottles and each bottle's label is visible without touching the bottle. It has one window for the installation of an air-conditioning unit (cost: $150). It also has a digital portable heater (cost: $55) which will maintain the winter-temp. Year-round temp is 55 degrees at a minimal electrical cost of approximately $10-$15 per month. The cost of construction including walls & ceiling insulated to R-19; carpeted floor; and, racks for 1,200 bottles was less than $1,000 (including the cost of heater & AC unit)

If anyone is interested, I'm happy to share "HOW TO DO IT" and any suggestions that your particular situation requires [I've had about 20+ years of "hands-on"construction experience PLUS another 20 yrs as a "consulting expert"]. . .In addition, I've been drinking wine "LEGALLY" for more than 50 years; and, like to think I've learned something about how to "handle" the Fruit of the Grape! <smile>
