With the iPhone application platform launched, I would really, really, really like to see a My VinCellar for the iPhone. Any chance one is in the works?

Thank you for your post. Yes, we have had initial discussions about the features and functionality we would include in an iPhone application for both the Vinfolio wine store and VinCellar. I'd love to hear feedback on what you think would be most useful.

Ability to add, consume & comment on my Cellar would be great. Being able to take a shot of the label from the phone would also be a big plus too. Have only recently signed up to VinCellar with the hope that an Iphone app is forthcoming. I think the current apps are a little short of the mark, especially for cellaring.

Are you looking at creating a web app ie website based, or standalone app that is installed on the phone?

I have also just registered hoping that an iPhone app is on the way. The ability to view the cellar, consume and add from an iphone interface would be great...

Thank you for all of your feedback. We are in the process of scoping the functionality that we would include in an application. I will update this Forum as soon as we have the details of what would be included in an initial version of an iPhone application.

An iPhone app would indeed be great!
What I would love to see is an app that helps me:
  • quickly find a bottle in my cellar,
  • enter a wine as consumed (delete from location),
  • enter a new wine (and its exact location),
  • add (tasting) notes to a wine,
  • access the store
  • etc.
Cheers!

I think that this pretty much spells out what everyone would like to have functions for the Iphone app. There are already a couple up on the iTunes store but having a Vinfolio app would be awesome.

Kristen,

What's the status of the iPhone app? Is it in the works or are we going to just keep waiting to get an app that actually works the way Vinfolio does. I've bought a couple of the other wine apps on the App Store but the pale in comparison.

Thanks everyone for your input regarding an iPhone application.

We definitely have something in the works and it looks terrific. You can expect the functionality to grow over time and just like VinCellar it will be absolutely free. I don't have a solid date for release yet but I'll update this board when we know more.

Thank you for your suggestion. Currently we can only support Code 39 as that is what is used in our warehouse. However, given the utility of the iPhone we will add your suggestion to our list of VinCellar enhancements so that we can evaluate it for future development.

Yes, offline browsing is on our list of requirements. However, since it requires a significant engineering effort to sync updates, it may not be included in an initial release.

It would be great if you could add a bit more functionality - search by position fields, for example, or search by year/type (2001 brunelo, for example).

Perry, thanks for your reply. Searching by year should be possible, try '2001 brunello' in your query. As for more detailed positional search options we strove to keep this mobile version of VinCellar streamlined with only the essential capabilities of VinCellar. Replicating all the functions of something as feature-rich as VinCellar would be very difficult with the resources available to a phone. However, we are still in beta and are keen to augment the site with more complex features as we receive more user feedback. Watch this space!

When inputting a wine via iPhone browser, it does not seem possible to note the purchase source, to add a date (other than the current date) or to enter a photo of the label. Note that the WineSnob iPhone app has a great user interface for capturing all of these fields that could serve as a template.

Can you let us know when additional functionality will be added to the iPhone experience?

Thanks!
