Producer Notes
One of the small grower elite, Michel Egly's "cult" status owes to his ability to be somewhat of an alchemist when combining the elements that transform themselves into his phenomenal Champagnes. (a 60/40 pinot and chardonnay blend) A very light tint and an extremely fine bead of effervescence. A fruity nose that mixes both berry fruits and floral notes with background hints of spice and yeast merge into finely detailed, crisp and intense flavors that are youthful and crisp. While there is enough on display to warrant trying this now, I would personally be inclined to age it for a few years first. A very attractive effort and worth a look.

($68; 48 months on its lees; disgorged July, 2006) Dark onion-skin color with a lively mousse. Subtly earthy on the nose, with strawberry, redcurrant, baked apple and ripe pear aromas accented by a smoky nuance. Pleasingly light and brisk, with precise, racy red fruit and ripe citrus flavors. Nervy and sharply focused on the back end, finishing with good lift and a lingering suggestion of white pepper. This is really suave.

The same base, with the addition of a little Ambonnay rouge. The nose is weaker with a tone of red and blackcurrants. The balance is inferior to that of the white version. Storeable and a bit hard and lean when young.
