Producer Notes
Lokoya wines are identified with the terroir of Napa's mountain vineyards. Sparse soils, high elevations, good drainage, and the cool climates of the mountains and benches form the backbone for intense Cabernet Sauvignons.
Lokoya's goal is to choose sites, lots, and indeed rows of vines, that express the terroir and identity of their location through their wines

Full deep ruby. Explosive aromas of kirsch, blackcurrant, plum syrup, tobacco, leather, gunflint and roasted herbs. Big, dense, sweet and lush; really stuffed with juicy fruit and framed by bright acidity. Long on personality. Finishes chewy, ripely tannic and long. Winemaker Christopher Carpenter carries out a pre-fermentation cold maceration, which he feels allows him to get more soil tones, then leaves the wine on its skins for a good 15 to 20 days following the end of the fermentation.

An impressive wine that shows plenty of Bordeaux characteristics, from its range of herb, tobacco, currant, leather, bell pepper and earth scents to its mouthcoating tannic structure. Wonderful richness, density and depth.

Characteristics of crushed minerals, forest floor, sweet black currants, and toast emerge from the 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain. It possesses medium body, austere tannin, and a certain hardness in its Bordeaux-like character. This 1999 should age for 15+ years, but whether it will ever become charming or expansive is questionable. Will it ever achieve harmony and finesse? Will it ever be enjoyable enough to actually drink?
