Producer Notes
Krug is considered by most enthusiasts as the premiere producer of Champagne. The Champagnes are famous for their rich, nutty, elegant and extremely food-friendly nature. Founded in 1843 by German immigrant Johann-Joseph Krug, the house has since been run by many generations of the Krug family, and the general style of the champagne has evolved along with that progression. A wonderfully fresh and exuberant nose of crushed berries, pure raspberry and background hints of yeast leads to crisp, intense and gorgeously precise flavors that etch themselves onto the palate, all wrapped in a deep and layered finish that seems to go on without end. This is a great example of the genre and one that will age well for at least another decade yet because of the admirable concentration, it can be approached now as well with pleasure. I personally would be inclined to wait a few years but it's not complete infanticide even now.

($250; lot LLHAL01175) Pale pink. Intense cherry, floral and mineral aromas, with a hint of anise. Full-flavored but well-focused, with vibrant, refreshingly bitter pomegranate and redcurrant flavors underpinned by juicy acidity. Clean and brisk on the finish, which features a dusty mineral tone and excellent length.

Mid salmon. Definitely darker than it used to be. Very light rhubarb nose. You have to struggle to get that aroma! Very nice tight bead - superior texture without a doubt but low-key flavour. Tightly packed. Very fresh. Long. A wine that demands attention, if only so that you can pick up the flavour! Pretty marked acid.

Krug Rose is a relatively new product from the Krug brothers. Their aim was to make a wine with a proper house-style, where the color was the only clue that it was a rose. The color is an extremely light salmon-pink, and the nose is definitely Krug! Their unmistakable symphony of full, complex aromas is backed up by a whiff of raspberry. The taste is tremendously austere and acidic, but less generous than a Grande Cuvee and definitely a wine to store.

A wine for contemplation. A well of berry, toast, citrus and coconut aromas and flavors mark this vinous Champagne. Its finesse, harmony, structure and complexity add up to a complete experience. Terrific length. 420 cases imported.

Remarkably refined and elegant, this champagne rose is an extraordinary example of how roses should be made. A delicate and refined nose of discreet red fruits, hints of white flowers, nuts and delicate spice. Beautifully structured acidity combined with moderate "creaminess" makes it enjoyable glass after glass. Still good to hold on to as it is still has some tightness and seems to be hiding something. Incredible mousse and very delicate beads.
