($71; L6164101) Copper-tinted pink color. Fresh tangerine, raspberry and wild strawberry aromas, with mineral and sea spray accents. Fleshy and round, with deep orange and white peach flavors, good depth and an exotic accent of floral honey. Finishes on a deep red berry note. This is delicious.

The NV Brut Grand Rose is made in a powerful, austere style that is best suited to the dinner table rather than for drinking as an aperitif. With air, pretty floral red fruits appear, yet this remains a muscular Champagne with notable thrust and vitality. In short, this is a very serious wine. The blend is 56% Chardonnay and 35% Pinot Noir, with the addition of 9% still red wines from Bouzy and Ambonnay. The cork is labeled C 7100, and this bottle was disgorged in May, 2007.

Big and powerful like all of Gossets wines. Somewhat rustic and one-dimensional with aromas that mark it as a grower produced wine. The bouquet evokes thoughts of red apple peelings and plums. The sensation is very round and compact to the palate. Sometimes to malic.

Complex aromas and flavors of yeast, apple and dried flowers mark this effusive, fresh rosé. Nice weight and balance, with everything in the right proportion.

Clear, medium salmon. Clean, medium to pronounced nose of fresh strawberries, rashberries and lime. some toasted bread notes too. Developing. Dry. Very elegant and polished. more lemon on the palate. Some minerals too. Medium+ finish. Fine quality, drink now.

About This Producer

Gosset is the oldest currently operating wine house in Champagne. Although small for a grand Champagne producer, Gosset makes close to 50,000 cases a year, which is approximately the same output as Krug. They are located in the town of Ay, in the heart of Champagne, along with such well-known Champagne houses as Bollinger and Deutz, and they have been making wine there since 1584. None of the Gosset Champagnes ever goes through malolactic fermentation, and this is a hallmark of the house style, producing persistent, fresh, and lively wines.
