The 2011 Chardonnay La Carriere is subtle, perfumed and utterly impeccable. Dried pears, nutmeg, wild flowers and lemon rind all take shape in the glass. There is an element of restraint and balance in the 2011 that is utterly compelling. This isn't a huge wine by Peter Michael standards, but it sure is beautiful. Acidity and minerality are the hallmarks here. Nick Morlet describes this site as rich in volcanic ash and the steepest Peter Michael works with. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2020.
