(50% new oak): Green-tinged gold. Pungent aromas of ripe orchard fruits, tangerine, smoky lees and toasted nuts, with a strong mineral overlay. Suave, silky and expansive, offering lush citrus fruit and poached pear flavors complemented by notes of buttered toast and anise. Finishes smooth and smoky, with lingering floral character and impressive spicy persistence.

More of a near-term proposition, there are only 920 cases of the sexy 2011 Chardonnay Mon Plaisir. It displays plenty of rich pineapple, apricot and peach fruit intermixed with brioche notes, a creamy, full-bodied mouthfeel, and a stunning finish. This very successful 2011 can be enjoyed over the next 4-5 years.

About This Producer

Peter Michael's estate vineyards (founded in 1982) are what make his wines truly exceptional. Sugarloaf Ranch sits high above Knights Valley in eastern Sonoma County, and from its rocky volcanic soil come Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The Alexander Mountain Estate Vineyard, above Alexander Valley, provides additional Chardonnay. All Peter Michael wines are site-driven single vineyard bottlings, whether from the estate or the limited sourced appellations. The line-up of estate wines is supplemented by a Pinot Noir from Pisoni Vineyard called "Le Moulin Rouge."
