Reviews For This Wine

A wonderfully fresh and beautifully layered nose speaks of ripe yet airy plum, dried flowers, in particular violets, cassis and plenty of sauvage character. There is outstanding size, weight and intensity to the broad-shouldered and superbly well-concentrated flavors that brim with mouth coating dry extract that pushes the otherwise very firm tannic spine to the background on the almost painfully intense finale. This is a big but not especially rustic or austere effort that should age gracefully for many years to come. I have always believed that the Renardes is the sleeper value among the Leroy grands crus, not because it's not as illustrious so much as it requires so much cellar time to reveal its full potential. If you have the patience, this is one to strongly consider.

Magnificent. The 2011 Corton-Renardes Grand Cru has a bewitching floral bouquet, perhaps not quite as complex as the Clos de la Roche but beautifully defined, perhaps haunting being the most appropriate word. The palate leans more toward a red fruit profile with succulent ripe tannins; gentle grip and a multi-layered, white pepper-tinged finish that revivifies the senses, leaving it tingling long after the wine has departed.

About This Producer

"Domaine Leroy is a welcome reminder of the difference between the very good and the great." - Michel Bettane, Vins de France

Created in 1988 - beginning with the purchase of the 12 hectares Domaine Charles Noellat in Vosne-Romanee - Domaine Leroy has become one of the most impressive and vaunted properties in Burgundy. Cultivation follows strict biodynamic parameters and the combination of old vine preservation and ultra-low yields produce fruit of unrivaled excellence. The resultant wines are masterpieces of purity, intensity and layered subtlety enhanced by an uncommonly statuesque concentration. The spectacular reviews that these wines consistently receive attest to their incredible and solid quality - they are a lynchpin in any Burgundy enthusiast's collection.
